Wednesday Loves

This is my second attempt at this blog post (let's just say that my iPad app is now in the doghouse) so I want to say that it will be better than the first attempt...but I'm pretty sure it won't be!

I have struggled of late to write posts with real content and just don't know what's wrong with me (don't worry "I'm not crazy...my mother had me tested." Name that show.).

So I am once again resorting to my iPhone photos and Instagram to create some content, instead of writing an inspiring, uplifting or motivational post...wait a minute, that doesn't happen even when I do a written post!

Oh well, enjoy some snippets of my life of late and if you find my inspiration, please tell it I miss it!

My cards for Blissdom arrived yesterday! So exciting. I can't believe it's a week away. Just found out Rascal Flatts is performing - wow.

I'm in LOVE with tights. My sisters and I actually spent 30 minutes in the hosiery section of Filene's Basement while we were in NYC this fall. (Quick fact...the store is NOT in an actual basement, see photo below.) I loved the above tights so much, I bought them in brown too.

This is the view from the Filene's Basement in NYC...as you can see NO ONE was out that day...maybe because it was cold and raining. Didn't have to fight crowds but made it hard to enjoy our walks through the city.

This is my adorable niece whose parents left her in my care for several days while they went on a cruise. I returned her to them with a double ear infection and hair that hadn't been washed in days. I told them the only guarantees I would make was that I would feed her and she'd be alive when they returned. Both happened.

This is my favorite photo of late...my two youngest nephews dumped a gallon bag of "army men" on the rug (which hasn't been swept in weeks) at my front door. It looks to be a scene out of Home Alone when Kevin set the traps for the pair of bungling burglars. Luckily, I remembered they were there as I came down the steps or I may have taught them some new words after stepping on them in bare feet!

Baseball and a Six Year Old

My six-year-old nephew LOVES to take photos with my camera.

My expensive Canon Rebel XS camera...and I usually let him. I've actually featured his photography on here before.

He really does have quite an eye for composing a shot. I taught him how to work the zoom lens and he does.

Last night the family joined me at an Indianapolis Indians game that I was "working" at as part of the Indiana's Family of Farmers. More than 300 people came out as guests of Indiana's Family of Farmers and enjoyed the game and a picnic. Even though it was 90-plus degrees, I think everyone had a great time.

While we were watching the game, my nephew asked if he could take some photos...and, of course, I let him!

All I did to the photos below before posting them was reduce the size - no other Photoshop work done on these. Pretty good for a kid, right?

He captured a couple shots of the game...

Then he turned his attention to the people!

The shot above actually had to be re-taken once his aunt saw the photo and realized that he got a little too close and shot her at a bad angle! Everyone is a critic.

It's Bennie the Bean!

He wasn't satisfied with his game shots so he took a couple more...

He had to re-take Grandma and Papaw's photo after we noticed Papaw's eyes were shut! I think the second effort was pretty good!

Not bad for a six-year-old!

Family Fish Fry

Last Saturday was a PERFECT night for a gathering at the cabin on the family farm. It was in the 80s with a nice breeze...couldn't ask for better.

So Dad decided to fry up some fish. I don't have any photos of the finished product...it was consumed as quickly as Dad could get it fried!

But I did snap some random shots of the family.

"Cheese!"

"Yum!"

We call this uncle the "baby whisperer."

This aunt can't wait to get a hold of the baby girls...
maybe it's because she has three boys at home!

Not quite old enough for fish, JJ had to settle for puffs.

So sweet.

"So how's it going up there?"

"Just one more chip."

A good night for a walk.

Hopefully we have a few more nights like this one this summer.

Wednesday Smiles

I needed a pick-me-up this morning...

Because it's raining.

Because it started to rain before I made my Starbucks run.

Because I have an afternoon event for work that is outside (rain or shine) and there's a 60 percent of thunderstorms all day.

So here are some things that have made me smile this week...maybe even laugh out loud.

I love the caption that someone put on this one...

"Oh no they are trapped. Someone help!"

Why I Love My Life

There is something about a fence and cattle on the other side.

The sight draws you.

It makes you stop and just take it all in.

It attracts others.

I'm loving that as a child I stood at and climbed over this same fence to get closer to the cattle in the summer (my dad's a farmer, not a rancher so when I say "cattle" I mean four or five at a time) or to go sledding in the winter.

I'm loving that my nephews (and soon my nieces) get to experience the same kind of childhood as my sisters and I had on (or near) the farm.

I'm loving that my dad is the kind of grandpa (or Papaw) that his dad (my Grandpa) was...patient, kind, loving, silly, fun and wise.

I'm loving my simple country life (that is still just 30 minutes away from the closest mall) and that I share it with my family.
