Wordless Wednesday: Preview of Sweet Corn Extravaganza
This is my first time doing a Wordless Wednesday post. These are some shots I took during the first sweet corn freezing of the year. Come back soon for more about our evening of fun putting up our farm fresh sweet corn.

Did You See My New Header?
Isn't it beautiful?
Hannah over at Off the Cuff and INDYpendent incorporated my love of butterflies into a gorgeous piece of art!
I'm so excited.
It's inspiring me to blog more.

Another Random Thought from My Commute
I saw a guy in the truck in front of me take his shirt off.
We were driving in the fast lane.
He pulled it off over his head...it wasn't a button-up shirt.
I didn't know whether to be impressed or scared.
And I was just a bit tempted to get a closer look!

Honestly...These are Some Good Blogs
Thanks Cris! I "heart" you and your blog...you've inspired me time and again.
So the rules are I have to HONESTLY tell you 10 things about me and then pass the award along to other great bloggers.
10 things about me...HONESTLY
1. Just this week I cried while watching the season finale of Glee (for the second time) during the season where the students sang to their teacher...OMG.
2. I also cried watching Deadliest Catch and seeing Captain Phil's sons struggle with their father's illness.
3. Brings me to my utter fascination with reality TV - not like the Bachelor or Dancing with the Stars, but like Run's House, Jersey Couture and Hoarders.
4. Housekeeping is NOT my forte and sometimes (OK, most of the time) my house looks like a Hoarders house in training.
5. If there's a styrofoam cup from McDonald's in my house, there's probably a little bit of Malibu in it along with my Coke Zero.
6. If I could live on chocolate, bacon and Coke Zero (with a little bit of Malibu), I'd be a happy, happy woman. Throw in some cheese and it's utopia.
7. I love to travel and am itching to go somewhere fun SOON.
8. I've been to 33 states (including Hawaii and Alaska and a couple of others that I don't count because it was just in their airports) and a baker's dozen different countries.
9. I've visited the 3rd largest sugarcane farm in the world (in Guatemala) and I can HONESTLY say that I'll take corn production over sugarcane production any day...we don't burn our crop to get it out of the field!
10. Just watched a Lays commercial showing the farmers that grow their potatoes and think it's cool that I know so many farmers that grow the food I eat.
Here are some blogs that I'm bestowing the Honest Scrap award to:
Beth at In Good Cents
Summer at Sumo’s Sweet Stuff (try her Grasshopper Cupcakes – yummy)
Little Miss Can’t Be Wrong at how I met your father (just found this one, but I’m already hooked)
The Bathtub Mama over at The Bathtub
Farmgirl at Farmgirl Follies
Leslie at A Spoonful of...
Also, check out these other blogs that I gave a shout out to earlier this week.

"C'mon Everybody" Go to the Theater
I love, love, love musicals - on stage, at the movies, on my television.
I had friends growing up who performed in local theater productions so I got hooked early in life.
To this day, if I come across a cheesy musical while channel surfing, I find myself immersed in no time.
I'm lucky to live about 30 miles from Indianapolis - a city with some great options when it comes to seeing a show. Not only do traveling Broadway shows, like Wicked and Jersey Boys, make their way to town, but we also have some great local theater companies that put on wonderful productions - both musical and not.
Last night I went to the opening night of "All Shook Up" at Footlite Musicals just north of downtown Indianapolis. The musical is loosely based on Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night" and features Elvis Presley classics. This show features performers ages 18 to 25 and their enthusiasm and the intimate feeling of the small theater really made the show. It definitely wasn't a Broadway show, but for less than $20 a ticket, it was a good night's entertainment. It runs this weekend and next, so if you are in the area, you might want to check it out.
I love being able to support the local arts scene and have a night out with friends!
Speaking of a night out with friends, another great option is Heartland Actor's Repertory Theatre's (HART) Shakespeare at White River State Park in August. I think this is the third year that this local theater group has staged a Shakespeare play at the Amphitheatre in downtown Indianapolis. This year they are doing "the Two Gentlemen of Verona."

You can bring a picnic (and some wine), a blanket and settle down to enjoy some great acting and it's all FREE!

Knee High by the 4th of July?
Have you heard the saying "knee high by the 4th of July" in regards to corn?
Well, I'm not sure when and where the expression originated, but the corn around my family farm has been taller than knee high on the 4th of July as far back as I can remember.
I even have proof!
Here's a photo I found of my dad while going through photos at my grandma's house after she passed away a couple of months ago.
It was taken on July 4, 1986 and my grandma wrote on the back: "Norman and our corn on July 4, 1986."
The corn is taller this year probably due to an earlier planting date, lot and lots of rain, better seed genetics and better production practices (like conservation tillage).
Happy 4th of July!
