Pumpkins, Cows, Straw and Corn, Oh My

A trip to Kelsay Farms each October is becoming a tradition. 

This year, Baby Sister and I took her daughter and our two oldest nephews with us for an afternoon of fun on the dairy farm where we, of course, saw the cows.

The farm is just outside of Greenwood, Ind. and is a working dairy farm. They open the farm to the public every weekend (Friday night to Sunday evening) in October.

They do a great job providing lots of fun activities for all ages, including a corn maze.

But, it's all about the straw and the corn box when my nephews are there.

The photo above does NOT do the straw mountain justice. It is HUGE with tunnels and slides. It's a perfect place for boys to run around, make friends and play tag.

They expanded their corn box this year (think sand box but with corn) and it was a happening place.

My only complaint about the whole day is that the boys brought a little too much of the fun home with them...

Not sure if you can see it, but there's corn all over my floor...from his pants pockets! Oh well, he picked it all up, though I'm not sure where he put it...

Dreams of NYC

Well...at least two of my sisters, a friend and I are taking our first trip to NYC. I'm going to consider them my posse because the trip was my idea!

I am probably more excited about this trip than I have been about a vacation since my first (and second) trip to Kauai...or paradise as I call it.

I'm not sure if my excitement is because I've never been to NYC and there's so much to do and see...

OR if it's because so many of the shows I watch on TV are set in the city.

Here's how I'm envisioning our visit going...

We'll be picked up at the airport in a taxicab by Ranjit from How I Met Your Mother...

and he'll drop us off at MacLaren's where we'll suit up and be AWESOME!

The next morning we'll get up and grab a coffee at Central Perk.

Before heading out for a day of sight-seeing and shopping.

We might even end our evening at a fabulous bar doing some karaoke like this Fab Four...

What? You don't think ANY of that will happen. Really?

OK, I admit that my dreams of hanging out on the couch at Central Perk with Monica and the Gang probably won't come true.

But what about all the cool places I see in the reality shows that revolve around NYC.

We could stop by Mood and pick up some fabrics...

and run into Tim Gunn who will tell us to "make it work!" I think this would totally be the way he'd look at us if we were to try and design an outfit for him!

Or we could just go into Second Time Around - the cool upscale resale shop featured on Bravo's Fashion Hunters.

I'm pretty sure I still can't afford anything in the store even if it's priced 75 percent off the original price but wouldn't it be fun to browse?

Then we could grab a bite at one of the city's many food trucks...

Maybe we could even find the Korilla truck from the Great Food Truck Race show. I'd love to find out if they really did add money to the till.

No matter what we end up doing, where we end up visiting and who we end up seeing, I know the trip will be great.

Throw on a Jacket It's Fall

Fall is hands-down my FAVORITE time of the year. 

I love wearing jeans and a long-sleeved t-shirt then throwing on a jacket and heading out.

I recently got a comfy track jacket from the women's line at Carhartt...

and I've been wearing it every where, including the Fountain Square Art Fair with my very cute niece (above).

I think it will work great with a warm winter vest as the weather turns colder but for now I've been layering it over t-shirts to go out to breakfast with my pal Jane and her kiddos...

and dinner with a great group of gal pals (thanks Cris for the photo and Leontien for the meal).

I even wear it to the farm to hang out with my other cute niece - JJ. (Side note: Her shirt says "My Auntie is Awesome" - wonder who bought her that?)

Stubby, the barn cat, came out to see us.

And look who we found at the grain bins? My uncle Sam wearing in his Carhartt overalls!

Carhartt jackets, overalls and coveralls are part of the "uniform" for my dad and uncle on the farm, especially when they are working outside in the winter. There was definitely a nip in the air while we were visiting with Uncle Sam so we didn't stay out long.

Just long enough for JJ to bat her eyes and get a taste of Uncle Sam's apple...well maybe more like 3 or 4 bites!

Where's the Beef

Once I stopped bowling blogging (was totally watching Big Bang Theory right now and it's the one with Will Wheaton and the bowling alley...oops) earlier this month, I have had a difficult time starting again.

So, I decided to ease into it with a simple post tonight.

Have you seen the Wendy's television ad where the guy puts on the vintage "Where's the Beef?" t-shirt and everyone notices?

The ad made me smile...and made me want a Baconator...guess it did it's job, huh?

BTW, my local Wendy's started carrying Coke Zero. Yeah!

Tribute to My Grandma

My Grandma...

Raised eight children.

Ran a home, milked cows AND raised eight children - all without ever having a driver's license.

Helped us make the best Valentine's cards with paper doilies and construction paper.

Had a green chair that you could spin around in until you were dizzy.

Made the BEST Barbie clothes and even made jewelry to go with the outfits.

Helped me make a skirt for 4-H (well, she sewed most of it, don't tell my mom).

Made the BEST beef and noodles and Boston cream cake.

Saved her Kool-Aid points to get her grandchildren a nifty Kool-Aid truck which her great-grandchildren still play with.

Always had a dish of M&Ms on her counter.

Didn't like her photo taken so we don't have enough photos of her kind, wonderful face.

Had great taste in music and always shared her CDs with me.

Loved watching the Cubs and NASCAR.

Told me a few years ago to stop giving her gifts associated with birds.

Got a laptop to go online to read my blog (well, she didn't get it just for this blog but she did read it).

Could shop with the best of them and LOVED jewelry and purses.

Could be found watching Cash Cab with my uncle every evening.

Loved sharing Chinese food and listening to me ramble (well, I pretended she loved listening to me).

Was loved by her family, friends and neighbors and will be missed by all.

The coffee was not only pretty to look at but delicious to drink!

I really enjoyed the cappuccinos while over in Europe but for some reason shy away from ordering them now that I'm home.

Why is that? Any thoughts?
